You may be like many people and find that laundry sometimes piles up and you become overwhelmed. If you find that dirty clothes seem to overflow your hampers, and clean clothes sit folded in baskets if they even make it out of the dryer at all, you need a laundry makeover. Here are some tips for helping you come up with a better system.

First, designate a laundry day. You need a schedule of when you will be doing laundry, and you need to stick to this schedule. You want a set day that you complete all laundry tasks, from washing and drying to folding and putting away.

Don’t wait for a full load either. Whatever laundry you have on laundry day gets washed. Look at your laundry volume and decide how frequently this needs to happen. You may need more than one laundry day per week.

Cull your wardrobe. If you are constantly doing laundry you may simply have too many clothes. If you have more than you need, see if you can’t get rid of some of them. Take a day and sort what can go away, and donate what you don’t want to keep.

Children add to a laundry burden. Older children, though, should be doing laundry tasks. After the age of 10 a child can help with their laundry. Even younger children can be taught to put away their clean clothes. Help them master tasks until they are ready to wash, dry, fold, and put away their own items. That will cut down on your laundry volume a lot.

How is your laundry room set up? Ideally you will have a hanger bar for hanging clothes that should not go in the dryer, or ones that need to be hung immediately when they come out. It helps with clutter and your clothes stay nicer longer. If you can’t fit in a full hanger bar, try some hooks on the walls.

Bring in a table if you have room in your laundry area. It’s easier to fold clothes at a table. If you pull laundry fresh from the dryer and your table is right there, it’s a simple thing to fold and then put away the laundry.

If you follow these tips, your laundry issues should start to resolve very quickly. It’s miserable being stressed over unwashed clothing –and it is also unnecessary.
