When someone says “drug addiction”, what do you think of? Most would say alcohol, cigarettes or cocaine.

These drugs kill a lot of people, but what about drugs that were actually meant to help people? What about prescription drugs?

Doctors use these drugs for countless applications. There are drugs for pain relief, sleeping disorders, psychological problems, chemical imbalances and so much more.

Prexription drugs are designed to help the sick or injured. But when they are abused, they are just as harmful and addictive as any other type of drug.

One reason that prescription drugs are so addictive is psychological. They are designed to help so it creates a mental trap for people.

It is widely understood that cocaine is a harmful and potentially fatal substance, so it scares many to stay away from it. But when your doctor prescribes you some little pain pills for your back trouble, you aren’t quite as intimidated. That makes it much easier to start abusing them.

That also means it is more difficult for the person suffering to get help. If their doctor gave them the drugs it is hard for them to see that they have a problem.

People may not see how dangerous they are, but often people die when abusing prescription drugs for the very first time.

If one of your loved ones has a problem with prescription drugs, help them immediately.
